Help Us Restore the Roseville General Store |

|
These are the two fronts for the gasoline pumps. These would have bolted onto the sides of the gas pumps. The front on the right had masking tape applied over the word ‘Premium’ and had the word ‘Regular’ hand written on it.
The plan is to have the pole fabricated to fit either the metal or the plastic sign. Then Dave will take the pole in to get sandblasted and powder coated.
By spring, the store should have a very nice period correct DX sign out in front. I hope to have the plastic sign on the pole and place a light in it. If the plastic sign and the metal sign are the same size, we can put them both up and have a lit sign on one side and a painted metal sign on the other.
These were purchased in Springfield, MO. The metal DX sign was on the side of a flea market building. After asking about DX signage, they showed Dave a few more pieces.
Here is the pole and plastic sign. You can view the two types of signs displayed during the operation of the store in the Vintage Photo Gallery. Early on they had a D-X (Diamond D-X) sign and later on they had a DX sign exactly as the one below. |

The plastic DX sign was ok but very dirty with scratches. I bought it anyway and took some soap and water and steel wool to it. To my surprise…………………. Before: |
|
After!! I was quite excited after I started cleaning it up and most of the dirt was mold and the scratches buffed out. |

Here is the metal sign. No bullet holes! A few rust spots that I guess I will repaint and clear coat. The signs are the same size (10ft wide by 5ft high) so we can put them back to back on the pole. I hope to have the pole to the welder next week (11/17/08) to build the frame, then take the entire assembly to get sandblasted and powder coated. I’m sure Al and the crew will have it up in the Spring. |

I had to do a little test fit of the sign. It fits perfectly. I was worried that the other arm for the lights was bent or broke but they just unscrewed the arm so that it did not get broken when they laid it down. |

To the right is the Diamond D-X sign.
Below you can see the DX sign just as the new one purchased. |

Here is a great picture of Jim, however more important to this project is the DX sign in the background. Looks exactly like what we bought. Will search for the lights next. |
